Waltham Man Running For State Representative

Francis Stanton is running challenging incumbent John Lawn.

A young Waltham Republican is challenging State Rep. John Lawn in the coming election.

Francis Stanton, a 24 year-old Waltham native, told Waltham Patch yesterday he is running for the 10th Middlesex state representative seat in the fall election. The seat includes parts of Waltham, Watertown, and Newton.

Stanton, a 2006 graduate, said he was running for a couple of reasons. First, he wanted to make sure Lawn, a Watertown Democrat, did not run unopposed. Also, seeing the recently redistricted map, which he believes favor keeping Lawn in office for years to come, Stanton felt compelled to run.

“There should at least be a choice for the voters in November,” Stanton said.

Lawn recently announced he is running for reelection.

Stanton, who is currently attending Boston College to get a Masters in Education, said he would push two issues if elected – settling the fate of the in Waltham and creating more jobs in the local economy.

“It’s the regulations that sort of strangle holding the young … entrepreneurs,” Stanton said.

Stanton, who a 2010 graduate of Siena College recently turned his 181 signatures to be certified for the ballot.

I've had the pleasure of meeting Francis. He would make a wonderful State Representative. He has a grasp of the issues and would bring fresh energy and new ideas to the halls of Beacon Hill, which has grown stale because of the decades of Liberal group think. When all our legislators think the same way, it almost becomes like cult. The solutions they come up with are always the same. And it usually means taking more money from taxpayers to expand the scope of government. How many consecutive Democrat House Speakers have been indited now? Do you think that this sad state of affairs might have something to do with the fact that for decades one party has had total control of the legislature? Eighty percent of the lower house and ninety percent of the State Senate is Democrat. There are no checks and balances. And it would be just as bad if had been lopsided for decades to the Republicans advantage. This kind of one party rule has ruined the Commonwealth. It's time to change that. Francis Stanton is a bright, young, energetic Republican who has a terrific future in politics ahead of him. He is in it for the the right reasons. He wants to serve his community. So this Watertown resident, who considers John Lawn a friend and an honorable man, will be casting his vote for Francis Stanton. We must end one party rule in Massachusetts. It may take a few election cycles. But the time to start is now.

Great speech today in Framingham, Mr. Stanton. I like your positive message and dedication to changing the status quo. Good luck with your campaign. Wish I lived in your district so I could vote for you. Rob Cappucci Republican State Committee 2nd Middlesex District
