Massachusetts House Passes Domestic Violence Bill Spurred by Remy Case

The bill passed the House unanimously Tuesday.

A comprehensive domestic violence bill, brought on by the Jared Remy case, passed the Massachusetts House Tuesday in a 142-0 vote, according to a CBS Boston report.

The bill now moves to the state Senate. House Speaker Robert DeLeo, who introduced the bill with Attorney General Maratha Coakley, has called the bill the most comprehensive overhaul of the state’s domestic violence laws in a generation.

The bill would delay bail for domestic-violence suspects, toughen penalties for offenders and train judges on related issues.
