The following is a letter to the editor from former Waltham mayor William Stanley and his wife, Roberta.
As lifelong Waltham residents, we could not be more thankful for the years spent as members of this community. As you can imagine, Roberta and I care deeply about the race to replace the retiring state Senator Susan Fargo. We strongly considered each of the candidates for the democratic nomination, measuring their passion, values, and commitment to the city of Waltham.
There is one individual who we firmly believe can best serve the needs of Waltham, and this district—Joe Kearns Goodwin. Today we encourage you to join us in nominating him on Sept. 6.
Joe is a next generation leader with a traditional perspective to public service. He is a son of this district, and is answering the call to give back. Joe is a Democrat who shares our values and understands Waltham’s unique needs. As a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, Joe knows how to succeed in high pressure situations. Perhaps most importantly, Joe has proven he will be the strongest advocate for our middle and working class families on Beacon Hill.
Roberta and I have watched this city grow and flourish for decades, and like so many of it’s residents, have given our time to make it a better place. Whether through my 14 years as Mayor or through Roberta’s community activism and Democratic Committee work, we have contributed much of our lives to improving Waltham. We are looking for a state Senator who will continue to work, fight, and stand up for Waltham at the State House, and that person is Joe Kearns Goodwin.
Joe shows the same passion for public service that inspired us to enter politics decades ago; his integrity has earned him our vote.
William and Roberta Stanley
