How Does Waltham's Reverse 911 System Work?

Learn more here about Waltham's reverse 911 system.

With recent inclement weather and other critical news, some Waltham residents have wondered how the reverse 911 system works and how to sign up for it.

In fact, there are two reverse 911 systems in Waltham, and not one, as some have thought, according to Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy. One system is for citywide alerts and notifications and the other is for the Waltham Public Schools.

The citywide system has historically been used to issue alerts about missing people, storms and other events. The school system, however, is typically used to alert students and parents on whether school is cancelled.
