Watertown Man Faces Attempted Murder Charges for Allegedly Trying to Choke His Wife

WATERTOWN — Police arrested a Watertown man on attempted murder charges after he allegedly choked and punched his wife, and threatened to throw her in the river.

A Watertown was arrested on June 9, on charges which also included assault and battery, after his wife told police she had been abused by him. The man was arraigned in Waltham District Court on June 9, and released on $3,000 bail.

The alleged incident occurred at an earlier time, according to the police report in the court file at Waltham District Court.

“(The wife) stated that during a verbal argument with (the suspect), he put his hands around her neck and strangled her almost to the point where she blacked out,” the police report reads.

She also told police that “he was going to thrown her in the river if she didn’t start acting right,” the report reads.

Police located the suspect at his workplace and asked him if he had hit, strangled or threatened to throw his wife in the river. He denied doing any of those things.

The suspect told police his wife physically attacked him, and added that she needed to meet with a psychiatrist, the police report said.

The wife first approached two police officers as they were parked in the lot of the Dunkin' Donuts on Main Street, and told them she wanted to speak with a female officer.

When asked if she was OK, she told the officers that her husband abuses her. Officers asked why she had not come forward earlier and she said she was afraid for her safety and that of her mother. She explained that the suspect is his mother’s Green Card sponsor, and she worried about her mother's future.
