Waltham Police are warning the public of a recent uptick in unarmed robberies in the downtown area.

The attacks have taken place over the last six weeks in the area east of Moody Street during the night time hours, police said in a press release. Most of the victims were attacked from behind and then robbed while walking alone.

Police are urging pedestrians to walk in groups and to be aware of their surroundings. Pedestrians should be able to hear and see what is around them.

Police are increasing patrols in the area.

Anybody with information on the robberies should call police at 781-314-3600.

As we all wish for the revival of Moody St (etc) I earnestly hope the WPD will soon nail the perpetrators! Otherwise why would anyone risk going to a Moody St restaurant at night if they have to park one or two blocks into the "danger zone"? Perhaps some of our city officials and city councilors would care to comment...
