Waltham Murder Suspect Arrested on Gun Charges Last July

The alleged triggerman Domingo Mendes was also charged with assault and battery earlier that month.

Domingo Mendes, the 22-year-old Belmont man wanted for shooting Waltham’s Tyler Zanco to death, was arrested on gun charges in Burlington last July and on an assault and battery charge in Waltham earlier that month.

Mendes allegedly shot and killed Zanco, a Waltham High senior, shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday, March 20, in the Gardencrest Apartments parking lot on Middlesex Circle in Waltham. Zanco, 17, was fighting with 21-year-old Taylor Poulin, of Newton, who is also wanted by police, when Mendes shot him, according to the police affidavit.

In late July 2013, a Massachusetts State Police trooper pulled over a vehicle with Mendes in it on Route 3 in Burlington and allegedly found a loaded .45 caliber pistol, as well as a black mask, belonging to Mendes. At that time, Mendes was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number and unlawful possession of ammunition.

Earlier that month, Waltham police charged Mendes with assault and battery after an alleged altercation with his roommate.

Mendes’ address was listed as 40 Wilbur St. in Waltham last July – it is now listed as 10 Olmsted Drive in Belmont.
