Waltham Man Sentenced for Tax Evasion Scam

Paul Landry avoided jail time.

A 47-year-old Waltham man was sentenced to three months in a halfway house after pleading guilty to three counts of tax evasion, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

Paul Landry was also ordered to six months of house arrest and to pay $200,000 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service, according to the the U.S. Attorney's press release. He will also serve three years of probation.

Judge Mark Wolf told Landry, during a Thursday sentencing hearing, that he would not send Landry to jail due to Landry's worsening health and good work in the Waltham community, the office said.

Landry, who owned P.L. Drywall Inc. company and hailed from Waltham, falsified his tax returns from 2004 to 2006 by failing to report more than $900,000 in income, according to the U.S. Attorney's office. He failed to pay more than $200,000 in taxes on that income.

Landry also lied to an IRS investigator during an interview.
