Waltham Man Facing Gun Charges After Arrest in Burlington

The suspect was arrested in July in Waltham.

A Waltham man stopped by State Police in Burlington on Tuesday is facing charges for having a loaded .45 caliber pistol. 

Domingo Mendes, 21, of 40 Wilbur St., was held on $5,000 bail after being arraigned at Woburn District Court on Wednesday. However, the court revoked his bail on an open assault and battery case from Waltham.

For the car stop, Mendes is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number and unlawful possession of ammunition, according to the Boston Herald.

On July 7, Waltham Police arrested Mendes for assault and battery.

A trooper stopped the vehicle was riding in at 8:50 p.m. on Route 3 in Burlington, according to State Police. Police quickly noticed the driver’s license was suspended and also saw an open container of alcohol in the car. Police also saw a black facemask. The driver was later identified as Selina Salafia, 20, of Lowell. 

Police then frisked a passenger, identified as Torrie Tatum, 22, of Boston, and found a gun on him, according to State Police. The gun’s serial number had been filed off.  Mendes later admitted he was the gun’s owner, according to WHDH-TV. Mendes told police the mask was a Halloween gift for his daughter, to which a trooper said it was the month of July, according to the Boston Herald. WALTHAM INCIDENT 

On July 7, Waltham Police responded to a report that Mendes has assaulted his roommate, according to Waltham Police. With a description in hand, police later located Mendes in a car on Beaver Street near Bentley University, according to police. Tatum and Salafia were in the car with Mendes when police stopped the vehicle.
