A Waltham man faces serious charges after police say he allegedly strangled his wife.

Axel Morales, 29, of 109 Overland Rd., is charged with one count of assault to murder and two counts of assault and battery stemming from an incident on July 4.

At around 7:55 p.m., Morales allegedly got into an argument with his wife, threw her on the bed and strangled her as he straddled her, according to Waltham Police Detective Sgt. Tim King. The alleged victim passed out twice, he said. Also, Morales allegedly spit large globs of saliva down her throat.

The woman eventually escaped the house and fled to naother home to call the police, King said.
