Waltham Man Charged In Coxall Hit-And-Run Death

The husband of the Waltham woman facing motor vehicle homicide charges has told police that he, and not his wife, was actually driving the car that struck and killed Scott Coxall in November of 2011, according to court records.

Waltham Police have officially charged William Vasquez, 34, of 19 Mt. Pleasant St., with witness intimidation after he allgedly bullied his wife into telling police she was driving the car, according to a Sept. 24 Waltham Police report.

Previously, Blanca Contreras's attorney had claimed that Vasquez was driving the car that killed Coxall in 2011. However, Vasquez was not formally charged by Waltham Police until Sept. 25, 2012. 

According to the report, police, at the request of the Middlesex County District Attorney's office, interviewed Vasquez again on March 21, 2012, after Contreras's attorney told authorities he had identified himself as the driver. 

"During the interview, Vasquez alleged that he had lied to me during the investigation conducted the night of the fatal crash. He stated he was the driver of the car which had struck [and] killed Coxall," the report reads.

DA spokeswoman Stephanie Chefl Guyotte told Waltham Patch that charges against Contreras will not be dropped as a result of Vasquez's case.
