Waltham Man Charged in Bizarre Home Invasion

Nobody was injured during the incident.

A 29-year-old Waltham man is facing serious charges stemming from an Oct. 24 home invasion.

Scott Topham, 29, of 75 Prospect St. is facing the following charges: armed home invasion, kidnapping, threats to commit a crime and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon to wit a knife, according to Waltham Police Captain Steven Champeon.

The charges stem from an incident that began at 1:04 a.m. on Oct. 24. Police responded to a report of a man banging on the door of 81 Prospect St. trying to break in, according to Champeon. The victim, a resident of the house, came to the door and recognized Topham as his neighbor. Topham was holding a bottle of vodka.

Topham suddenly forced his way into the residence and made his way to the kitchen, and the alleged victim followed, Champeon said. Topham, who was armed with a knife, pushed the victim into a chair and ordered him to drink the vodka. The victim drank the vodka.

Topham told the victim he "has harmed people before and he is not afraid to kill someone," Champeon said.

Topham also poked the victim twice with his knife, Champeon said.
