Waltham/Danvers Police Working To ID Senior Living Center Thief

A thief recently struck two senior living communities in Waltham and Danvers.

Danvers and Waltham Police are working to identify a man who allegedly stole a several items from senior living communities in Waltham and Danvers.

Danvers Police say the suspect is likely the same person who has struck other facilities in Waltham. They did not say whether it was the same person who stole a safe and cash from the Waltham YMCA recently. Waltham Police could not be reached for comment on Wednesday, Jan. 16, but have said they are investigating the Y incident.   

Danvers Police declined to identify the senior facilities in Davers and Waltham from which items were taken saying they wanted to preserve their investigation. Waltham Police have surveillance photo in that case, but are not releasing, Danvers Police said.

Danvers Police say they are hoping the surveillance photos from the Jan. 13 theft of the Danvers facility will help identify the suspect. In that incident, the suspect allegedly stole items from an office and recreation room, Davers Police said. The suspect had no contact with residents or staff. There was no indication that any patient or resident information was taken.

After the Jan. 13 theft, Danvers Police circulated the suspect’s photo to each nursing home, assisted living facility and rehabilitation center in that town. Police have asked those facilities to review physical security and access to personal information.

In Waltham, and stole a safe from an office, according to Waltham Police. On Jan. 10, YMCA staff discovered cash had been stolen from an office overnight, police said. In both cases, the suspect forced his way into the building.

The YMCA is reviewing its security procedures, according to Executive Director Jack Fucci.
