Victim in Downtown Waltham Robbery Was Sending Money to Mom

On Nov. 25, a man pulled his car into the city-owned Chestnut Street parking lot to send money to his mother when suddenly andunwelcome person, Yesner Espinal, allegedly jumped into his car, police said.

Waltham Police, who received a report of the incident on Dec. 15, said this robbery attack was one of the recent  in a string in downtown Waltham.

Espinal stuck what police believe was a gun in the victim's abdomen. Then, a second person, whom police had not yet identified, jumped into the other side of the car and Espinal tossed him the gun, King said. The incident happened at around 7 p.m. 

Both men began patting the victim down and found the money the victim had planned to send to his mother, King said. The pair fled the scene. The victim was not injured. 

After investigating the incident, police put out an alert on Espinal on Dec. 18 warning he was armed and dangerous. Hours after the alert went out, police took Espinal into custody. 

Espinal and five others have been charged in the downtown attacks. Police anticipate making more arrests soon.
