Trial to Start Soon in Deadly Waltham Hit and Run

The suspect allegedly struck and killed a Waltham man in 2011.

Jury selection in the motor vehicle homicide trial of Blanca Contreras, of Waltham, is set to begin on Thursday at Waltham District Court, according to a Middlesex County District Attorney's Office spokesman.

Contreras, a native of Guatemala who is in the country illegally, allegedly was driving the car the struck and killed Scott Coxall, 39, of Waltham in November 2011.

However, Contreras and her attorney have denied she was driving the car that struck Coxall. Contreras's boyfriend, William Vasquez, has said that he was driving the car. Despite the claims, the DA's office has proceeded with charges against Contreras saying they believe she was driving the car.

Vasquez was previously charged with witness intimidation for lying to police saying he was not driving the car, but he later told police he was the driver. The DA dropped the charges, citing a technicality, and plans to refile them.
