Should Former Police Chief's Pension Details Be Disclosed?

Former Waltham Police Chief Thomas LaCroix recently resigned from his post after being sentenced to probation for attacking his wife at their Maynard home in 2012.

Since then, LaCroix has applied for a retirement benefits package from the city. The Waltham Retirement Board is scheduled to discuss the application during its July 24 meeting at City Hall. However, the Joseph Juppe, the director of the board, has said he will not disclose the amount LaCroix would receive.

Generally, the Public Employee Retirement Administrative Commission, which oversees the Waltham Board of Retirement, favors disclosing information relating to workers' pensions, according to its regulations. However, there are some exceptions that allow for withholding medical information and other items. Also, the salaries of municipal workers are routinely disclosed in city budgets and media outlets.
