Pedestrian Struck At Bentley In Waltham Has Died

Victim's name being withheld for now.

UPDATED, 6:39 p.m.: Waltham Police just confirmed to Patch that the victim, a 23-year-old graduate student from China, died from her injuries.

Her name is being withheld pending her family's notification and telling the Chinese consulate, according to Waltham Police.

The victim was first taken to Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton with life-threatening injuries, but later moved to Beth-Israel Deaconness Hospital in Boston, police said.

She was struck around 3:20 p.m. when she was crossing the street in a southerly direction when a vehicle travelling west under the footbridge hit her, police said. According to NECN, she was not crossing in a crosswalk.

“It does not appear that the operator was impaired at the time of the crash,” the police statement read.

The crash is under investigation.

UPDATED, 6:05 p.m.: FOX25 News is reporting the victim is a Bentley University graduate student and that she has died. FOX said she died at Beth-Israel Deaconness Hospital in Boston.

Her name is being withheld because she was visiting the university from China and authorities must first inform the Chinese consulate, according to FOX25.

The driver of the vehicle is a 41-year-old Waltham resident and that speed was not a factor in the crash, according to FOX25. The victim was crossing the street when she was struck by a pickup truck traveling west, according to FOX25.

UPDATED, 5:48 p.m.: A Bentley University spokesman just told Waltham Patch she had "no information" on the accident, but would inform us when and if she did.

UPDATED, 5:30 p.m.: Waltham Fire Department says the victim is a 23-year-old female and was struck just under the pedestrian footbridge near 385 Beaver St., the entrance to Bentley University.

A bystander was already giving the victim CPR when firefighters and medics arrived at 3:25 p.m., according to Waltham Fire Department. First responders took over the medical response upon their arrival.

Police only said they are investigating the accident. WCVB-TV just reported that a University spokesman cannot confirm yet whether the victim is a student or university employee.

The victim's condition was not immeidately availale, according to NECN.

A pedestrian has reportedly been struck by a motor vehicle on Beaver Street bridge near , according to various Twitter reports.

Details are still sketchy, but the victim reportedly has serious injuries and is being taken to Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Waltham Fire units have cleared the area.
