One Waltham Man Killed, Another Injured in N.H. Turnpike Accident

A 24-year-old Waltham man was killed after police say the car he was riding in struck a tree.

One Waltham, Mass., man was killed and another injured in a single-vehicle accident today on the Everett Turnpike between exits  11 and 12.

Matthew Caban, 24, of Waltham, was a passenger in the 2005 Buick LaSabre that police say rolled over and struck a tree  just before 1 p.m. today on the northbound side of the highway. He was was pronounced dead at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua.

The driver of the car, John Caban, 92, also from Waltham, was also transported to St. Joseph Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers from NH State Police Troop B, who were called to the turnpike at 12:49 p.m. for the accident, say the car left the eastern side of the highway and subsequently struck a tree. 

The continued investigation is being conducted by Trp. Phil Akstin of Troop B.  Anyone with information about the collision or subsequent investigation should contact Trooper Akstin at 603-666-3333.

State troopers were assisted on the scene by the Merrimack Police Department and Merrimack Fire & Rescue.
