New Waltham Fire Chief Confirmed To Post

Paul J. Ciccone is now the Waltham Fire Chief.

Paul J. Ciccone was installed last night as the city's new fire chief.

The Waltham City Council gave Ciccone final approval in a 14-0 vote one week after his He replaces former fire chief Ricahrd Cardillo who retired last summer.

Ciccone spoke briefly to a room packed with firefighters and thanked his family, among others, for supporting him.

“It’s a long road especially to get to this point. But the families, they paid a price along the way too. It's a lot of time away from them,” Ciccone said as his family stood next to him.

Ciccone jokingly said he heard a "rumor" that Mayor Jeanette McCarthy was "difficult to work for."

“Actually, it's not a rumor. She told me herself,” as McCarthy stood in the City Council Chambers listening to Ciccone's speech.

Ciccone said he looks forward to working for the mayor, somebody he said always wants to do the best thing for the city and its residents.

“I'll do the best I can for all of you,” Ciccone said.
