Murder of Waltham Woman by Boyfriend Prompts Petition Aimed at Repeat Abusers

A petition has been started calling for a change in state laws dealing with certain offenders after Waltham’s Jennifer Martel was murdered allegedly by her boyfriend who had been arrested just the day before on a domestic assault and battery charge and had a history of abuse.

The petition, called “Stop Repeat Offenders From Being Released on Their Own Recognizance” was started by Brookline resident Fallon Williams just days after the murder of Martel, with which her boyfriend Jared Remy, son of Red Sox announcer Jerry Remy, has been charged.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office appointed two attorneys from other counties to review Remy’s case.
