Newton Mayor Honors Waltham Firefighters for Battling Newton Fire

Member of the out-of-town fire crews were honored, along with Newton firefighters, police officers and dispatchers.

A standing room only crowd of people squeezed into City Hall on Nov. 7 to honor the Waltham and Newton firefighters who helped fight two multi-alarm fires in one night the previous week.

On the evening of Oct. 29, a three-alarm fire hit a home on Nahanton Street, and while Newton firefighters were still fighting that fire a two-alarm fire hit a home on Crafts Street. The second fire was tackled by out-of-town fire crews, including a Waltham crew, who were covering the Newton Fire stations while city firefighters were on Nahanton Street.

Specifically, a Waltham crew rescued a man from the Crafts Street home.

Mayor Setti Warren honored members of the Brookline, Waltham and Watertown fire departments for their role in fighting the blaze on Crafts Street. Including were Waltham firefighters, Matthew Cunningham, Charles Vinciulla, Scott Lawson and Lt. Thomas Ferrick, according to the Waltham Fire Department.

Warren also honored Newton firefighters who helped pilot the out-of-town crews to the scene, Newton Police officers who assisted at the fire and the Newton dispatchers who coordinated the whole effort.
