Man Busted for Trafficking Cocaine in Waltham

The suspect was arrested after a brief chase of sorts.

Waltham Police on Tuesday arrested a 46-year-old Boston man on cocaine trafficking charges.

Police arrested Luis Medina after watching him conduct a hand-to-hand drug transaction in Waltham, according to Sgt. Jot Guigno. Police had been conducting surveillance on the location, but Guigno could not specify the exact location.

Medina is facing charges for cocaine trafficking, failing to stop for police and failing to yield.

After seeing the transaction, plainclothes officers followed Medina, who was driving, to Central Street, where he suddenly stopped, Guigno said. Officers approached Medina’s car and identified themselves, but Medina fled the scene in his car, Guigno said. Officers caught up with him at the corner of Newton and Central streets and arrested Medina.

During questioning, Medina admitted he knew the men were officers when they attempted to stop him. Police searched Medina's car and found $50 as well as 28.4 grams of cocaine, according to Guigno.
