Jerry Remy Issues Statement on Announcing Job

Remy's son, Jared, is charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Jennifer Martel.

Boston Red Sox television announcer Jerry Remy says he will not return to his announcing job on New England Sports Network this season, according to a statement he released on Twitter on Thursday night.

Remy has not announced any games since his son, Jared, was charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Jennifer Martel, at their Waltham apartment.

In the statement, Remy said he plans to remain at his family's side.

"I am full of grief for the Martel family," he said. "My thoughts and prayers continue to go out to them. My wife and I are sick about this senseless tragedy. It's clear this isin't the time for me to return to broadcasting Red Sox games. It is my hope I can do so in the spring. I thank NESN and the Red Sox for their support through this nightmare."
