Development in Remy Murder Case

Jared Remy allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death.

A Middlesex County grand jury has indicted Jared Remy for the August murder of his girlfriend, Jennifer Martel, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office.

The move means Remy's case will go the Middlesex Superior Court where he is eligible for a more serious punishment. Remy is facing charges for murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery and violating a restraining order.

On Aug. 13, two days before the murder, Remy allegedly assaulted Martel at their Waltham townhouse. Police arrested Remy for that assault and Martel obtained a restraining order against Remy. However, that order had expired by the following day. Reached for comment, DA spokesman Stephanie Guyotte declined to detail exactly how Remy violated the order saying more information would be available during his arraignment hearing.

Remy is scheduled to be arraigned on Oct. 8.
