Camuti Has Previous Waltham Criminal Record

William J. Camuti was previously convicted of scamming Waltham businessmen.

A 69-year-old Sudbury man accused of attempted murder of a witness in the James “Whitey” Bulger is no stranger to committing crimes in Waltham.

William J. Camuti, who faces charges for poisoning Stephen Rakes and dumping his body in Lincoln, was previously convicted on federal mail fraud charges in for bilking millions from five Waltham businessman, according to the Boston Herald. In 1994, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison and order to pay $2.5 million in restitution.

Camuti is due back in Concord District Court on Tuesday for a dangerousness hearing. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
