Preventing underage alcohol sales in Waltham

Given that the commentary section on the Waltham Trib gas gone dead (due to requiring log-in via Facebook) please forgive me for high-jacking their recent article and initiating the commentary here - http://www.wickedlocal.com/waltham/news/x946751218/Waltham-retailers-set-model-for-preventing-underage-alcohol-sales

Based on principle I enthusiastically applaud this initiative! Unfortunately there is a gross contradiction in the Massachusetts law it supports. Regardless of how each one of us may feel about the "proper" legal drinking age or the military, it is absurd that at age 18 people can vote and risk their lives "defending our country" but can get arrested if they are caught using alcohol. I have no insight for the "right" answer... Comments anyone?
