Low Voter Turnout

8.5 percent turnout is embarrassing. When will the city start putting up signs to let voters know election dates? How about at least updating the city election department's website? How can we expect registered voters to get out and do their civic duty if election information in this city is harder to find than a black rhino?

We need a sign? How about the The Patch, local TV news, print papers, flyers in the mail and various other social media as reminders? Do you live under a rock and get all your information from signs?

To be fair, this was a special election to fill that seat. Timing is everything - Tis the season! Not sure people really know what is going on unless they are bombarded with postcards of the people running and the date to vote. I didn't.

To be fair? You mean to be coddled. I received a card from each candidate, read article about the candidates and made a mental note. People who want to be involved get involved that's the facts.

I voted. I don't have a problem with finding my information. The Patch is by far the best source of information, which is a problem. One man working independently shouldn't be working harder to inform people than the city's own elections department. Look around at Belmont or Watertown. You can't drive through a major area without seeing some kind of signage with election dates. Not everyone has access to the internet, and I received nothing in the mail about this recent election. Having grown up in Milton, where prior to each election, an election warrant detailing every office, candidate, and ballot question is mailed out to every home, Waltham falls far short of that.

Carlos is right, Lexington had a big sign out. Some people simply forget.
