Wayne Abbott, Longtime Waltham Public Schools Custodian, Dies at 64

Abbott was a representative, organizer and coach for the Waltham Little Nipper Maher Baseball League for over 30 years.

Wayne C. Abbott, of Waltham, passed away unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, June 12, 2014 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital at the age of 64.

Born on June 27, 1949 in Waltham, son of the late William and Zella (Gaudet) Abbott, Wayne was a lifelong resident of Waltham.

Wayne attended Waltham Vocational High School and had been employed as a custodian by the City of Waltham Public School Department for over 30 years, retiring as senior building custodian at the Kennedy Middle School. 

He was devoted to his position as a representative, organizer and as a coach for the Waltham Little Nipper Maher Baseball League for over 30 years. His legacy is best described as a compassionate, caring and a true teacher of the game, all the while treating each and every player fairly. 

He was a member of the Joseph F. Hill American Legion Post #156 in Waltham, the Waltham Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1018 and the French-American Victory Club in Waltham.

Wayne was full of life and by all accounts the life of every party. He was outgoing and fun loving. Music was a huge part of his life whether it be singing along or swinging an air guitar. He had many different hobbies that he enjoyed like camping at Long Lake in Maine, golfing, bowling, playing horseshoes and his Tuesday night dart games.

In addition to all of that, Wayne was a passionate and diehard season ticket holder of the New England Patriots for over 20 years. 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years Yvette M. (Veilleux) Abbott, his loving siblings Audrey E. Toy and her husband Kevin of Billerica, Robert W. Abbott and his wife Diane of Shrewsbury, and William J. Abbott and his wife Cindy of Londonderry, New Hampshire. In addition, he is survived by many devoted brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, numerous cherished nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother Alan C. Abbott and his dog Roscoe.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend funeral services from the Brasco & Sons Memorial Chapels, 773 Moody St., WALTHAM, on Tuesday morning, June 17, at 8:30 a.m. with a mass of Christian burial in celebration of Wayne’s life at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 920 Trapelo Road, Waltham, at 10 a.m. Visiting Hours will be held in the funeral home on Monday, June 16, from 3-8 p.m. Parking attendants will be on duty.
