Obituary: Rev. Raymond Fournier

Fournier died Monday, April 14.

Rev. Raymond A. Fournier, S.M., of Waltham, died on Monday, April 14, 2014 at St. Patrick's Manor in Framingham. He was 92.

Fr. Fournier was born on Jan. 30, 1922, a son of the late Adelard and Maria (Dallaire) Fourner. He attended St. Charles Grammar School in Providence, R.I., and graduated from Maryvale Seminary in 1940. On Feb. 2, 1949, at Our Lady of Victories Church in Boston, he was ordained by Richard Cardinal Cushing.

Academic by nature Fr. Fournier loved to teach and taught mathematics at the Marist Seminary High School in Bedford and at the Marist College and Seminary in Framingham. Some of Fr. Fournier's other assignments included serving at St. Anne's Parish and Sacred Heart Parish both in Lawrence, St. Charles Parish in Providence, Our Lady of Victories Church in Boston, St. Mary's Parish in Franklin and St. Anthony's Parish in White River Junction, Vt. He had also served as part-time Chaplain at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford and as Chaplain at the V.A. Hospital in White River Junction.

Besides the Marist Community, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Therese Fournier, of North Cranston, R.I., and by many nieces and nephews.

He was also the brother of the late Maurice, Gerard and Lucille Fournier.

Family and friends will honor and remember Fr. Fournier's life by gathering to visit on Tuesday morning, April 22, at 9 a.m. in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, where his funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Andover at 2:30 p.m.
