Obituary: Lois Bowse, of Waltham

Bowse died Sunday, June 22.

Lois Bowse, of Waltham, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, June 22, 2014 in her home. She was 87.

Born in Cambridge to the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Yarter) McGorty, she was raised in Arlington and was a graduate of Arlington High School. Lois spent several years living in Belmont before finally settling in Waltham, where she has been a resident for 59 years.

Mrs. Bowse worked in the cafeteria of Waltham High School as the head cook for over 25 years. She was also a member of the Waltham Retirement Board.

Lois was a member of the Lady's Auxiliary of the V.F.W. John M. Sullivan Post 10334 and the American Legion Joseph Hill Post 156.

In her spare time, Lois enjoyed bowling at the Wal-Lex, dancing and was a member of "Marge Gallagher's Dance Club." She was a master tailor and made all of her children's clothing and loved knitting and crocheting. Most of all, Lois enjoyed being with her family.

She was the beloved wife of the late James F. Bowse, mother of the late James T. Bowse and sister of the late Phyllis Davis.

She is survived by her loving children Lois Kresien and her husband Gary, Daniel P. Bowse and Gary Bowse, all of Waltham, her cherished grandchildren Kelly Bowse of Virginia, Thomas Bowse of Vermont, Daniel J. Bowse and his wife Marissa of New Mexico, Jennifer Bowse of Waltham, Michael Bowse of Merrimack, New Hampshire, and Haley Bowse of Needham, her great granddaughter Maleah and her daughter-in-law Peggy Bowse. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend funeral services from the Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody St., WALTHAM, Thursday at 10 a.m. with a mass of Christian burial in celebration of Lois' life at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, at noon. Interment will take place at the V.A. Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne Friday at 1:15 p.m. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Parking attendants will be on duty.
