Obituary: Joseph Limole, of Waltham

Mr. Joseph A. Limole, of Waltham, died peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2014 in his home surrounded by family. He was 83.

Joe was born in East Boston on June 22, 1930, the only son of the late Joseph A. and Helen (Cozzi) Limole.

He was a proud veteran and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during the Occupation of Europe and the Berlin Airlift. While stationed in Rome, he was fortunate enough to have a private audience with Pope Pius XII.

Joe met Santa B. Caruso at the Lenox Hotel in Boston and the pair married on April 22, 1956. They spent 51 happy years together before Santa died in December of 2007. Until his retirement, he had worked as an architect for a local architectural firm and the federal government. In his younger days, he was a great athlete and had tried out for the Red Sox. He loved to garden and was handy around the house, there was nothing he couldn't fix. Spending time with his family was most important to Joe, whether it was trips to Duxbury and the Cape or heading into Fenway to catch a game.

He was the beloved husband of the late Santa B. (Caruso) Limole and is survived by his children, David J. Limole and his wife Jana of Natick and Diane S. Callahan and her husband Jeffrey of Lexington; his grandchildren, Colvin Joseph Callahan, Gavin Callahan and Dante Joseph Limole; his devoted companion, Alyona Krinskaia of Waltham; his sister Norma Barbarisi of Saugus; his nieces and nephews, James, Janice, Jean, Richard, Robert and Steven, and is also survived by many forever friends from East Boston and all his handball and racquetball buddies. He was the uncle of the late Joseph Barbarisi.

Family and friends will honor and remember Joseph's life by gathering for calling hours on Tuesday, April 15, from 4-8 p.m. in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main St. (Route 20), Waltham, and again on Wednesday at 9 a.m. before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River St., Waltham, where his funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
