Obituary: Gordon Brown, 88, of Waltham

Brown died Thursday, July 10.

Gordon Brown, of Waltham, passed away at the Walden Kindred Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Concord early Thursday morning, July 10, 2014. He was 88.

Gordon was born and raised Roxbury to the late Francis and Yvonne (Ashington) Brown. He has been a resident of Waltham for the past 52 years.

Mr. Brown served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II. He served in Germany in the 77th Field Artillery Battalion and received the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Brownie was an active member of the Waltham V.F.W. Post 10334, and the Waltham American Legion Post 156.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Nancy (Anderson) Brown, his loving daughters Cynthia M. Brown and her partner Larry Baker of West Hartford, Connecticut, Barbara J. Brown of Waltham and Cheryl L. Brown and her husband Terry Cowing of California, his sister Dot Whitaker of Acton and his brother Alfred Brown of Seattle. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Francis P. Brown and the late Barbara L. Shaw. 

A private graveside service in celebration of Gordon's life will be held at the V.A. Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne for family and close friends.
