The following is from Joyce Funeral Home.
Mrs. Eleanor M. (Malloy) Conzo, of Waltham, died peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2014 in her home surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness. She was 89.
Eleanor was born in Waltham on July 24, 1924, a daughter of the late William and Gertrude (Reed) Malloy. She was raised in Cambridge and was a graduate of Rindge and Latin High School.
A Waltham resident for the past 70 years, she returned to the city after her marriage to Emilio A. "Leo" Conzo Jr., a Waltham Fire Lieutenant, who died on Dec. 2, 1981.
Eleanor and Leo were founding members of Saint Jude Church when it was formed in 1949. Throughout her life Eleanor was among the group of people who can best be described as the blood and the bone of the parish. Her name was on the short list of people called to help with any and every endeavor at church or at the parish school. Generations of students, parishioners, priests and sisters were the benefactors of her warmth, love, kindness and generosity.
She helped to form Saint Jude Ladies Sodality where she was a former prefect and also supported organizations where her family members were involved. She was a former president and member of the Waltham Firefighter's Wives Association and was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America.
Eleanor was a loyal and dear friend to many. Her lifelong passion and greatest happiness was her love for her family. She was their greatest supporter and provider of comfort throughout her life. Eleanor was a very spiritual woman and was proud of her Irish heritage.
She leaves her children, Karen M. Babstock and her husband, John, of Waltham, James M. Conzo and his wife, Carol, of Maynard, and Arlene A. Doe and her husband, Stephen, of Billerica; her grandchildren, John Babstock Jr., Joyce Brown, Dawn O'Neill, Kimberly Strafford, Kevin Conzo, Jaime Randall, Amy Kuzdzal, Michael Doe, Christina D'Amico and Sarah Conzo; her brother, William Malloy, of Florida, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Eleanor was the great-grandmother of the late Zachary Conzo and the sister of the late Edward Malloy.
