Lawrence Carey, Longtime Waltham Youth Hockey Coach, Dies at 86

Carey died Tuesday, June 24.

Mr. Lawrence A. Carey, of Waltham, died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, June 24, 2014. He was 86.

Larry was born in Dorchester on July 13, 1927. After graduating from Newton High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served during World War II. On July 24, 1965, he married Ann S. Porter in East Wareham Methodist Church. The pair settled in the Lakeview neighborhood of Waltham where Larry enjoyed spending time outside keeping his yard meticulous.

Larry was a silk screen printer for 27 years until his retirement.

One of Larry's passions in life was hockey, he loved all aspects of the sport and growing up he was a talented goalie. He loved to teach the game and had coached for over 40 with Waltham Youth Hockey.

He is survived by his wife Ann S. Porter Carey and his son David L. Carey, both of Waltham.

Family and friends will honor and remember Larry's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main St. (Route 20), Waltham, on Sunday, June 29, from 4-7 p.m. and again on Monday morning when his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Massachusetts National Cemetery at 1:45 p.m.
