WARREN TOLMAN ENDORSES PETER KOUTOUJIAN FOR CONGRESS

Tolman Expresses Support, Cites Koutoujian’s Decades-Long Track Record of Standing Strong For The Middle Class on Gun Control, Women’s Issues, And Healthcare For All

Warren Tolman, the former State Senator for Watertown, Belmont, and parts of Cambridge, today endorsed Peter Koutoujian’s campaign for Congress.

“For decades Peter Koutoujian has been an ally and fierce advocate for the Middle Class,” said Tolman.  “He delivered his maiden speech from the State House floor on gun control.  He wrote stalking legislation, fought off cuts to the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners program, and helped pass the bill that requires all hospitals in Massachusetts provide emergency contraception to women who need it.  And he chaired the Public Health committee when Massachusetts passed first-of-its-kind healthcare laws that now ensure 98% of residents and 99% of children are covered.

“At a time when Republicans in Washington have brought the government to the cliff of a shutdown over the Affordable Care Act—a program that provides millions of Americans affordable healthcare—I can’t imagine a more qualified person to fill Ed Markey’s shoes.  Peter’s always known how to stand strong for our core values and win, and I know those skills will serve our district well in Congress,” said Tolman.

Tolman and Koutoujian will campaign together this afternoon, spreading Koutoujian’s strong, progressive message to every corner of the district.  Today they will make stops throughout Watertown and Cambridge to meet voters and speak with small business owners.

“I am honored to earn Warren’s endorsement,” said Koutoujian.  “He has always been a strong, proud progressive, and I have always been proud to stand with him for the Middle Class.  From standing up to gun violence to standing strong for women’s rights to standing firm for affordable healthcare for all, Warren has been a dedicated ally.  I am excited to hit the trail running with a longtime colleague, friend, and advocate for Belmont, Cambridge, and Watertown residents.”

Tolman adds his name to a growing list of individuals and organizations that have endorsed Koutoujian, including former Director of the White House Office of Women’s Initiatives and Outreach Betsy Myers, State Representative Tom Stanley, longtime Mayor of Revere Tom Ambrosino, former Revere superintendent Carol Tye, 11 Waltham city officials, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Council 35, the New England Dock and Marine Council, the Teamsters 122, the MSSOA/NAGE Local57, the IBCO, and the unanimous endorsement of the Waltham Democratic City Committee. Additionally Koutoujian’s campaign recently opened field offices in Lincoln and Cambridge, continuing an investment in winning this race neighborhood by neighborhood.

The campaign also ran a Get Out The Vote summit yesterday, training more than 100 volunteers on tactics to help execute the final push before Election Day.
