PETER KOUTOUJIAN TOURS LOCAL BUSINESS, DISCUSSES LIFTING MEDICAL DEVICE TAX TO CREATE NEW HIGH TECHNOLOGY JOBS IN THE FIFTH DISTRICT

WALTHAM – Peter Koutoujian yesterday toured Nova Biomedical—a mid-sized business headquartered in Waltham—with owner Frank Manganaro.  While viewing the company’s production facilities, Koutoujian and Manganaro discussed lifting the Medical Device tax passed as a portion of the Affordable Care Act to create new high technology jobs in the Fifth District and Massachusetts.

“Nova Biomedical is a perfect example of the employment opportunities that Massachusetts’ innovation economy generates,” said Koutoujian.  “Last year alone they created over 100 new jobs here at home.  But the Medical Device tax minimizes their ability to invest in the jobs of the future—jobs in research and development, jobs that move our country toward a greener environment, jobs for the middle class.  I support the Affordable Care Act but we need to repeal the Medical Device tax so that companies like Nova Biomedical can continue to offer new employment opportunities here at home.”

“Peter’s a kid from Waltham, and I like to think we’re a business from Waltham,” said Manganaro.  “In the 35 years since we opened our doors, Nova Biomedical has made it a point to make our products right here in America, in Massachusetts.  Unfortunately that’s going to change: this year we’ve created 70 jobs in the US, but we’re also opening up new factories in Taiwan and Brazil.  Peter saw immediately how we could keep those opportunities here at home, and as a Congressman we know he’ll do everything he can to lift the Medical Device tax so companies like ours can continue to thrive.”
