AT FRAMINGHAM STATE UNIVERSITY FORUM, PETER KOUTOUJIAN HIGHLIGHTS CONGRESSIONAL PRIORITIES: WOMEN'S RIGHTS, GUN CONTROL, AND THE MIDDLE CLASS

Koutoujian Discusses Record of Accomplishments Over 20+ Years in Public Service, Pledges to Stand Strong For Fifth District in Congress

Peter Koutoujian last night highlighted his priorities for the Fifth District at a forum at Framingham State University, including standing strong for women’s rights, standing up to gun violence, and standing firm with the middle class.

“I believe we need a strong, progressive voice in Congress and that’s the message I’m taking to every corner of the district,” opened Koutoujian.  “A women’s right to choose is hers and hers alone—Washington politicians need to stay out of it.  Gun violence is seizing our next generation—56 children per week are killed by guns.  That’s not acceptable and it’s time we put an end to it.  Middle class families need a partner in Congress and I’m running to level the playing field so your children and mine don’t start out behind.”

A key moment in the forum came when Koutoujian discussed his two decades-long record of public services.  “These are the issues I talk about every day on the trail, but I’ve been talking about them since the first time I spoke on the floor of the Massachusetts State Legislature.  My maiden speech in the House was on gun control.  I’ve got a record of standing strong for victims’ rights, passing stalking legislation, and making sure hospitals throughout Massachusetts provide emergency contraception to those women that need it.  These are the conversations I’ll have every day until October 15th—and every day after.”

With 23 days to go, voters are indicating support for Koutoujian’s bid for Congress.  “Peter doesn’t just understand my issues, he stands up for them,” said Ben Cavicchi, a student at Framingham State.  “On women’s rights, on gun control, and on the middle class, Peter’s an ally and an advocate.  He helps us organize then gets our priorities passed.  That’s why he’s got my support: Peter’s got a proven track record of getting real things done for real people.”

The forum wrapped up a busy weekend for Koutoujian, who made thirteen stops in nine towns to speak with voters in the Fifth District before the October 15 primary.  He also recently received the endorsements of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Council 35, the New England Dock and Marine Council, the Teamsters 122, the MSSOA/NAGE Local 57, the IBCO, in addition to the unanimous endorsement of the Waltham Democratic City Committee.  His campaign also announced a slew of endorsements from elected officials and community leaders including State Representative Tom Stanley, 11 Waltham city councilmembers, longtime Revere Mayor Tom Ambrosino, Revere’s first woman school superintendent Carol Tye.  With less than four weeks to go Koutoujian is building momentum with no plans to stop.
