EMILY's List has announced that Katherine Clark is among a select number of Congressional candidates in the country to be "On the List." EMILY’s List is an iconic national organization helping to elect pro-choice Democratic women to Congress. Being “On the List” makes it easy for EMILY’s List members nationwide to engage in Katherine’s campaign along with the amazing team of grassroots supporters already working to send Katherine to Congress.
Katherine is “On the List” due to her commitment to making women’s voices heard on issues like reproductive health, early childhood education, equal pay, gun safety, paid sick leave, and keeping our promises to seniors.
During the 2011-2012 election cycle, EMILY’s List helped elect an historic number of candidates, and since its founding in 1985, EMILY's List has worked to elect 101 pro-choice Democratic women to the House.

Rep. Ed Markey’s decision to run for Secretary of State John Kerry’s Senate seat – a contest Markey is favored to win – opened the door for prosecutor, mom and highly popular state Sen. Katherine Clark to run for his heavily Democratic House seat. Clark, a longtime activist, is lauded throughout her community for her work on public safety, education and health care. The race presents a critical opportunity to both continue Markey’s progressive legacy and add a woman to the surprisingly short – given the state’s liberal leanings – list of female Bay State members of Congress.
A MUCH-LAUDED CHAMPION OF SCHOOLS, HEALTH CARE AND PUBLIC SAFETY
Katherine, who served for six years on the Melrose, MA School Committee and has three children in public schools, has championed education in the state legislature. She’s fought to improve special needs education, guarantee fair funding for schools and prevent bullying, while pushing for tougher protections against child sex offenders and insurance coverage for autism treatment. To address the recent rash of tragic shootings, Katherine convened a panel of legislators, police officers and gun safety advocates to discuss commonsense solutions to gun suicides and homicides. Strongly pro-choice, she has sponsored numerous bills to crack down on domestic abusers while raising awareness around dating violence.
A CROWDED SPECIAL ELECTION IN A SAFE DEMOCRATIC SEAT
In Congress Katherine will use her proven track record of finding common ground and compromise to ameliorate what she calls Washington’s “divisive climate.” A fierce advocate for small businesses, she knows how to support entrepreneurs and stimulate economic growth. But Massachusetts primaries are notoriously crowded, and Katherine will need support from the EMILY’s List community to win this special election and take her progressive leadership to Congress.
