Joseph Fraser, of Waltham, won $1 million recently after buying a scratch ticket at a Waltham gas station, according to Mass Lottery Web site.
Fraser won the $1 million prize from a $10,000,000 Diamond Millionaire scratch ticket he purchased the Trapelo Mobil in Waltham on Thursday, April 5. He chose to take a lump sum prize, which amounts to $650,000 after taxes.
"Fraser purchased two $10,000,000 Diamond Millionaire tickets ... when he went into Trapelo Mobil in Waltham to get a few chances in that evening’s record-high Mega Millions drawing. His wife thought the news of the $1 million win was an April Fools Day joke and made him email a copy of the winning ticket to her at work. The couple plan to pay off their children’s student loans and invest for retirement with the winnings," the Web site reads.
The gas station will receive a $10,000 commission for selling the ticket. Fraser is the eighth person to win $1 million in the Diamond Millionaire game.
