Miracle for Mikey Fundraiser
On Saturday, June 18th, 2011, while on his way to the Bruins Parade, 14 year old Michael (Mikey) Murphy suffered a cardiac arrest and was initially in a coma in the ICU at Children's Hospital. He has since emerged from the coma and remains in a vegetative state. After multiple tests, in an effort to explain this unexpected event, doctors are at a loss for explanation. Mikey is a fun-loving, healthy, athletic 14 year old boy with no history of health related problems. The doctors have diagnosed Mikey with brain damage due to lack of oxygen to his brain as a result of heart failure. Mikey has since transferred to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston.
As there is little we can to do assure Mikey's recovery, the families and surrounding communities are coming together to assist in any way we can. We are holding a fundraiser on Friday, August 26th at the Sons of Italy in Waltham.
His family is struggling to come to terms with this unexplained tragedy and has not left Mikey's bedside. Mikey's parents, Michael P. Murphy, Jr and Cindy (Partridge) Murphy both grew up in Waltham.
