Seventy-five Years Later: the Hurricane of 1938

Historic New England and the Waltham Historical Society present Seventy-Five Years Later: The Hurricane of 1938 on Tuesday, November 12 from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Lyman Estate.

The September 1938 Great New England Hurricane was one of the most destructive storms in American history, causing more than six hundred deaths and $400 million in property damages. Join Historic New England’s Program Manager Shira Gladstone as she examines this massive storm and its impact on the region. Discover what made this storm so unique and learn about the impact and aftermath of the hurricane in southern New England.

The presentation is free to members of Historic New England and the Waltham Historical Society. General admission is $5. Please call 617-994-5959 to register. The Lyman Estate is at 185 Lyman Street in Waltham.

About the Lyman Estate

The Lyman Estate is one of thirty-six historic sites owned and operated by Historic New England. The property, a National Historic Landmark, comprises the historic mansion and greenhouses set on thirty-seven acres of gardens and woodlands. The estate is best known as a site for Historic New England’s public programs and as a function rentals venue.
