The Anād Foundation, with support from Anād USA and Bhai Jaita Foundation, is proudly organizing the first ever Boston region concert of Bhai Baldeep Singh, a 13th generation exponent of Gurbani-Kirtan. Also the khalifa of the oldest gharāna of classical percussion (pakhāwaj/mridang) in Punjab, the Sultanpur Lodhi - Amritsari Bāj, Bhai Baldeep Singh's repertoire includes masterpieces of the Sikh Gurus, Sufi and Bhakti tradition exponents. Parminder Singh Bhamra will accompany him on the pakhāwaj, along with Rattan Singh Bhamrah on tār shehnai.
The concert will be held on Saturday, December 8 2012, from 6:30pm to 9:30pm at the Koumantzelis Auditorium in Bentley University in Waltham, MA.
The event is a rare opportunity to learn about lesser known aspects of Dhurpad-Gurbani Kirtan musical repertoire, as perfomed in the medieval Sikh Gurus' tradition.
All proceeds from the concert will go to support Anād Foundation's project, Anād Conservatory: Institute of Arts, Aesthetics, Cultural Traditions and Development Studies, located inside the 12th century Sultanpur-Lodhi Fort in Kapurthala, Punjab. Anād Foundations's efforts are geared towards facilitating the recovery and enhancement of the sukham virsā (intangible) and sthul virsā (tangible) heritage of a variety of South Asian cultures and communities.
