Waltham's Unemployment Up In June

What do you think will lower the city's unemployment rate?

Unfortunately, Waltham's unemployment rate jumped in June, according to newly-released data from the Massachusetts Department of Labor & Workforce Development. 

  • June unemployment: Waltham’s unemployment rate for June jumped to 4.8 percent from May’s 4.1 percent rate. That mirrors the .5 percent jump to 6.3 percent seen statewide.
  • Now, a total of 1,743 Waltham residents are unemployed.
  • Overall, last month's rate is far below the 6.1 percent unemployment rate seen in June of 2011.

The new figures come amid many businesses planning locations for Waltham. , , and are all hoping to open new stores in the city, as well as . Also, several new developments are in the works, including the and the former Polaroid site.
