The state is considering bringing back "Happy Hour," to restaurants statewide.

Should Massachusetts bring back "happy hour?"

The state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission is holding a hearing in Boston on Aug. 21—one of five across the state—to solicit public feedback on the idea, according to the Boston Herald. 

The casino bill passed last year requires the ABCC to complete a study by Jan. 31 of whether the state happy hour law, which currently restricts daily or hourly discounts on alcoholic drinks, should be updated or amended. 

In Waltham, restaurants that serve alcohol would still have to follow a local regulation which requires food be available to patrons, according to city regulations. Also, restaurants serving booze would be required to document that at least 51 percent of their revenue is coming from food, according to local regulations.

Happy hour is a bad idea, especially since we have 2 large colleges in town. We do not need to facilitate binge drinking.

No "Happy Hour". We don't need anymore public drunkeness than we already have. re: liquor licenses. Please note that the liquor license process would have to be passed at the State level and signed by the Governor.

I don't see why we shouldn't have happy hour. You're worried about facilitating binge drinking? The students are just binge drinking in their dorms now and going out later for those last two drinks. If they went out earlier they'd probably actually drink less. Why do you think the New Landing had to close - they're only business came between 1130 and 130 on Friday and Saturday... You can't run a business on that.
