.) The Basics: Damnation Alley Distillery, a new vodka and whiskey distillery, opened Friday, Oct. 4, at 7 Brighton St. in Belmont (near Belmont High School). The distillery has five owners: Alison Dewolfe, Alex and Emma Thurston and Jessica and Jeremy Gotsch.
.) Products: As of now, Damnation Alley sells three vodkas, Nick the Sipper and The Remixer, and One Night in Bangkok, a flavored vodka inspired by Thai sweet chili sauce. It also sells two kinds of whiskey. The vodkas and whiskeys are sold exclusively at the distillery at 7 Brighton St.
.) Farm-to-Bottle: Damnation Alley uses grains exclusively from Massachusetts farms – Four Star Farms in Northfield, Mainstone Farm in Wayland, Valley Malt in Hadley, Wellfleet Sea Salt Company in Wellfleet and Urbivores in Belmont.
.) Name: The name Damnation Alley comes from the nickname of Boston’s first one-way street, which usually had two-way traffic. Because of this traffic pattern, motorists often got into tiffs in the alley, which was used as a short cut to Quincy Market and the Royal Exchange Tavern.
.) Hours: The distillery’s hours are Wednesday-Thursday 4-8 p.m., Friday 4-9 p.m., Saturday noon-8 p.m. and Sunday noon-5 p.m. The distillery does not have tours or tastings yet.
