Market Basket Construction Proceeding, Says Mayor

The Market Basket store had been delayed due to a company battle.

The planned Market Basket is proceeding, according to Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy.

"Bottom line is, they are proceeding," McCarthy said late Friday afternoon.

The news comes after an internal struggle with Market Basket caused a delay in progress for the sire to be located at the former Polaroid site at 1265 Main St.

"Great news!," McCarthy exclaimed.

McCarthy said she does not know whether the lease was signed, but a Market Basket Board of Directors Web site, updated on Jan. 9, said the company had authorized the signing.

It's unclear when the store will open.

A Starbucks, Marshall's, TD Bank and Verizon store are all planned for the site.
