LETTER: Thanks Waltham

The following is a letter to the editor.

The following is a letter to the editor.

On behalf of the Downtown Initiative Committee of the Waltham West Suburban Chamber of Commerce, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the residents of Waltham and neighboring communities for their support of local, independent small businesses on Small Business Saturday, November 24th.

Shop Small Saturday, the day after Black Friday each year, was created to remind people that local small businesses are the foundation of a community. Many small business owners support local charities and pay local taxes.

Where we shop, where we eat and where we spend our cultural and recreation time, makes our community home. Our one-of-a-kind businesses, museums and historic mansion homes are an integral part of our distinctive character.

Last year, more than 100 million Americans shopped at small businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, according to the U.S. government, and this year, consumers are again being urged to “shop small.” We ask that you also think small during the rest of the year as well, and continue to support Waltham businesses.

As we celebrate the 5th Annual Waltham Holiday Prelude (Nov. 23 – Dec. 23), we invite you to visit www.walthamtourism.com to view the calendar of events and a complete listing of downtown businesses competing in this year’s Holiday Window Decoration Competition. Residents are encouraged to walk or drive through the downtown to view the windows and then vote online at www.walthamtourism.com for your favorite.

In closing, we wish you all a joyous Holiday Season and happy, prosperous New Year.
