What Should Go In Empty Waltham Site?

Check out our new Visions for Vacancies feature where you tell us what you want to see in an empty storefront.

Have you ever driven around Waltham and wondered what will occupy that empty building?

Now, you will have a place to share your thoughts on what should occupy that space.

Welcome to Visions for Vacancies, a new Waltham Patch feature where you can discuss possible uses of empty buildings.

Every week, we will feature a new storefront or building in Waltham. Then it’s up to you to say what should go into the space.

To kick things off, we’re at 699 Main St., the former site of Kabab & Tandoor, Halal Indian Cuisine, which moved to Moody Street in 2010.

The site sits near the intersection of Moody Street and Main Street. Metered parking is available on Main Street and surrounding roads. Public transportation also runs to the site.

In the comment section below, tell us what you want to see go into the building.

WE NEED A MARKET BASKET IN WALTHAM AS WELL AS A WALMART!

It won't be another restaurant unless it's one that sells without a liquor license. How about a music store: providing instruments, lessons and sheet music? I'd love to study drums.

i think a hobby store should go in there
Tim Hill May 21, 2012 at 03:38 PM
I would love to see a good bakery in that area.
Kristine Munroe May 21, 2012 at 04:15 PM
I second the bakery idea. Would also love another coffee shop...something open later than Cafe on the Common. There are so many great restaurants in the area, but Lizzy's is the only place to get dessert...it would be nice to have a spot where people can go somewhere after dinner for some coffee, tea, and a pastry.

How about a New England Soup Factory,(gourmet homemade soups & sandwiches)? There is one on Highland Ave. in Newton if you want to check it out.

Strip club!
Ryan Grannan-Doll (Editor) May 21, 2012 at 09:38 PM
Is a strip club in the middle of the downtown next to family-friendly establishments really the best use of such a property?
Minuteman59 May 22, 2012 at 01:22 AM
Walmart? Christ that's all we need, I hope I never see that happen. Anything, a bakery, Great Harvest Bread Company, an Italian Bakery would be nice, I could use a few Cannolis!!!
NANCY May 22, 2012 at 02:15 AM
WE NEED A GOOD ITALIAN BAKERY, SOMETHING LIKE ANTIONES IN NEWTON ON RT 16 WOULD BE PERFECT.

sue, Despite me not being able to crack the code that is your use of punctuation, I have to agree with you 100% We really do need a good bagel shop in the area. I have been driving to Auburndale for Bruegger's or grabbing Finagle bagels for the weekend when I am in Boston. OK, so my preferences would be a good bakery or bagel shop. There was talk of a bakery taking the old Johnson Paint location, which I think would be fantastic.
Tim Hill May 23, 2012 at 01:24 PM
Just a passing thought, but do you think bagel shops may be becoming a thing of the past around here? The last time I was at a Bruegger's, I noticed that a lot of the people in line had Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks coffee with them. Considering the labor needed for a bagel shop, can these places make any money if their customers are not buying their coffee there also?

You can find all of that including the lessons at Lexington Music Center at 402 Moody St. (it's in Waltham, not Lexington) I recommend it highly.

Maybe if they offer full meals (i.e. sandwiches and salads) like a Finagle it could pay off. And wifi.
lj May 24, 2012 at 03:09 AM
A place with a great salad bar so I don't need to drive to Whole Foods everytime....
Brenda English May 25, 2012 at 06:26 PM
