Chipotle Planning New Waltham Location In 2012

Popular burrito chain plans to open location on Main Street.

You may want to save a lot of room in your stomach if you plan to eat at the latest restaurant planning to come to Waltham.

Chipotle, the popular burrito chain with locations in Newton and other area communities, is planning to open a new location at . in Waltham, according to a company spokesman.

While she could not put an exact time on when the location would open, spokesman Katherine Newell Smith said it would be near the end of 2012.

A developer is planning a retail complex for the site, for which the City Council gave final approval on Nov. 28, according to Waltham City Clerk Russ Malone. Technically, the approval allows the developer to eliminate 40 parking spaces at the site for a lower total of 244. 

The vote was 12-2 with City Councillors George Romard and Joseph Giordano casting 'no' votes, according to Malone. City Council President Paul Brasco, who has said he has a conflict of interest in the issue, recused himself from voting.

Chipotle offers burritos, tacos, chips, burrito bowls and other Mexican fare selections. The chain opened its first location in 1993 and in recent years has opened new locations in Medford, Newton, Needham, Watertown and other local cities.
