Bill asks "where did you buy your tie"?

Hi, I am Bill Fowler and I am running for Councillor in Ward 2. The first question that most of you will have is: I don’t live in Ward 2 so why should I care what you have to say?  Well the answer, with very few exceptions, is that the issues that affect Ward 2 are the same issues that affect the rest of the city. I would like to use this forum to share my thoughts on some of them.

One of the first questions I ask people when I meet them is, where did you buy your tie or some other item of clothing? With very few exceptions, the answer is that they bought it in a store that was not located in Waltham. Why is this? Why do we not have a Target or a Kohls? Why do we not have a store to buy a suit or a dress?

I know the answer to the question why we don’t have a bakery, because I met someone who wanted to open one. Her dream was shattered by all the obstacles thrown her way by the city. She was disheartened by the amount of time and money it would cost to go through the process with no guarantee. For the rest of us, we still have to drive by an empty store front and leave the city to go to a bakery or to a supermarket that heats up frozen products that they buy from a large wholesaler.
